The Daughters of Charity is an international Company of consecrated women founded by St. Vincent de Paul and St. Louise de Marillac on November 29, 1633.

JOURNEY THROUGH THE YEARS

• APRIL 4, 1867. Arrival  of six Hijas de Caridad: Crisologo Navarro, Ignacia Ostolozas, Juana Morga, Rita Deloe, Antonioa Novao, and Sales Montoya, at Pasacao Beach; welcomed by Fr. Vicente Garcia, together with the jubilant crowd.
• APRIL 5, 1867. The six Sisters left for Pamplona, cruised the Bikol River to Camaligan; disembarked and proceeded to Nueva Caceres, and were warmly welcomed by Most Rev. Francisco Carraciolo Gainza, O.P., Bishop of Caceres. 
• NOVEMBER 5, 1867. Royal Decree from Queen Isabela II of Spain creating the Escuela Colegio Diocesano de Sta. Isabel.  The Escuela-Colegio consisted not only of escuelas internas but also externas  and thus had the character of a municipal school.  The school had two departments, the Colegio de NiñasNiñsd Internas Y ExternasExtenas and the Escuela Municipal Para Las Niñas Pobres.
• APRIL 12, 1868.  The Escuela-Colegio de Sta. Isabel was formally opened.
• JANUARY 11, 1872.  A Royal Decree signed by Amadeo of Saboya raised the Colegio de Sta. Isabel of Caceres to “Escuela Normal de Maestras”. It was solemnly inaugurated on the feast of the Our Lady of Peñafrancia.
• SEPTEMBER 18, 1875.  Colegio became the First Normal School for Girls in the Philippines and in the Far East. One hundred pensioned students (one from each of the 100 towns of Caceres) underwent a three-year Normal School Program.
• 1877. Colegio graduated its first eleven (11) students.
• 1898. Operations of the Colegio were cut short by the Spanish-American War.  Colegio became the seat of the  government organized by then Corporal Elias Angeles

SEPTEMBER 19, 1898.  Gov. Vicente Zaldin signed the paper of capitulation ending the Spanish rule in the Bicol Region.

EXPANSION OF THE COLLEGE

THE DECADE OF THE 50’S SAW THE GROWTH OF CSI AS A PREMIER SCHOOL FOR GIRLS IN THE REGION.

• 1963. The College Department opened its Bachelor of Management and Information System
• 1968. The Graduate School was granted recognition with its premier offering of Master of Arts in Education, Master of Arts in Nursing (1968); Master of Science in Social Work (1994); Master in Management (1995), and Doctor in Philosophy majors  in Human Development Management (1996), Educational Leadership and Management (2018).
• 1972. A Royal Decree was issued conferring to the Colegio de Sta. Isabel faculty to issue titles for teachers. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing received its full recognition.
• 1973. Full recognition in Social Work.
• 1987. Full recognition in Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics.
• 1989. The Graduate School opened enrollment for Master of Arts in Nursing.
• 1993. Computer Technology and a Course in Entrepreneurship were opened with the advancement in technology and growth in industries.
• 1996. The Physical Therapy course received its full recognition; Bachelor degree in Human Ecology and Environmental Science was opened responding to the threats of the environment in the  90’s.
• 1998. Bachelor of Science in Biology started. The Night High School Program was opened.

DAWN OF THE THIRD MILLENIUM

The last half of the century for Sta. Isabel was marked by enormous strides toward development as evidenced in the various infrastructural buildings which filled up the landscape of the Sta. Isabel campus.  New courses were introduced, state-of-art technology was acquired and new policies had to be drafted to blaze new directions for the school.  All these found meanings in the new status of the school.

• 2000. Full recognition in Bachelor of Science in Food Service and Institutional Management.
• 2001. Colegio de Sta. Isabel was granted University Status in accordance with Republic Act No. 7722 otherwise known as the “Higher Education Act of 1944” and the virtue of Resolution No. 148 series.
• 2001. Conferment of University Status with Sr. Justina I. Rosales, DC as the 1st University President.
• 2002. Conferment of Sr. Ma. Asuncion G. Evidente, DC as the 2nd University President.
• 2003. First 18 Night High School graduates were granted their USI diploma, together with those of the day High School.
• 2004. Opened the Night College (Marillac Alternative Program) under a socialized payment scheme opened with Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship.
• 2012. Recognition of Universidad de Sta. Isabel as one of the Catholic Schools in the country that has contributed significantly in evangelizing the mission of the Church for Catholic Education Award of Recognition was conferred by the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines on the occasion of the 400th Years of Catholic Education in the Philippines. The Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology started.
• 2016. The Sangguniang Panlungsod declared USI as a historical landmark in the City of Naga. Senior High School opened as part of the DepEd K-12 Basic Education Program.
• 2018. The National Historical Commission of the Philippines officially and publicly declared Universidad de Sta. Isabel as a National Historical Landmark by virtue of Resolution No. 3, series of 2018. Marked another milestone in the history of CSI-USI 150th Foundation Anniversary. Bachelor of Science in Human Services was opened.
